I am breaking up with Fortnite. No hear me out. I know we seemed inspirable, but of late things have changed. It’s not Fortnite, it’s me, I swear, I take the blame. In the beginning, we really were inspirable. I’d think about Fortnite all day and we would spend every evening and some weekends together. Id rush to my PS4 to sign in and see what new items were in the store or count the hours till a new update. Then there were the holidays we spent together, Halloween and Christmas where even more special spent with Fortnite. The decorations and special items everything was new and exciting. And who could forget the time spent with friends all focused on the same goals and enjoying team work and our time together. Invasions from other dimensions, giant monster attacks, Time shifts, Gotham City, PIRATES! It was all so exciting, at the time. But maybe there is something to that old saying, “Familiarity breeds contempt”, because how many times did I defend you, how many times did they say you were dead. You would give and give but, god forbid you stumbled the derision would fall on you. It seemed those that loved you the most were now wanting to see you fail. But every time you’d reinvent yourself and prove them wrong.
Fortnite even when you frustrated me you were compelling. And boy did you love to frustrate me. My favorite weapons, gone, challenges that were annoying and repetitive. Events I couldn’t join. But still I loved you. I remember that time you ghosted me for three days but I couldn’t wait for you to come back even though when you did you had changed. You announced a new chapter in our relationship and the new was exciting, for a time. But lately it seems we have been just going through the motions. Sure, movie tie ins are fun but when it comes down to it we are just running over the same old ground and in the end just doing the same thing as everyone else. A game full of nothing but Batmen can lose its thrill quickly. I used to love riding in your golf cart, and ATV and later, your hover board. Now you have a shiny new boat and a chopper but, and I am sorry if this hurts you, it is just a new way to get to the same old place. I miss the old days. Call it nostalgia but I miss Tilted Towers. I am sure if you never changed your map people would be complaining about how things are boring. So, I must say, it’s me not you. Plenty of people were excited by your latest release. While I enjoyed trips to confront super spies and their minions I still skipped some nights in favor of binging “Better call Saul”. That’s not like me at all but the thrill is gone. It’s not you it’s me Fortnite so I think it’s time we saw other people.
